Long time no see! Alhamdulillah I had the chance to explore Jeju Island recently, with total budget around RM1500 only. Murah kan?
I've always wanted to fly to Korea, but I didn't expect it to be like this. 4 days 3 nights in Jeju Island ONLY? Kedengaran seperti dream vacation orang-orang Seoul gituh. Pada mulanya my friends rancang nak pergi Osaka, later I joined them. We set the date after our 1st Professional Exam because that's the longest holiday (1 month) throughout our medical school years (usually 1 week holiday only meh). We started to look for cheap flight tickets 7 months prior to the trip, but Osaka punya tickets mahal, above RM1k masa tu, so in the end..... JEJU JE LA.
Since we went there in a group of four, dapatlah jimat. Semua benda bahagi empat. The best way to explore Jeju is by renting a car. Dalam 4 hari tu dapat pergi banyak tempat sebab it's up to us nak pergi mana.
Budget in Ringgit Malaysia (roughly):
- Flight ticket: RM800 including baggage (share)
- Rental car: 140 per person
- Gasoline: RM57 per person
- Hotels: RM82 per person
- Total entrance/parking fees: Around RM120 per person
- Lunch at local restaurant (only once): RM70 per person
- Convenience store food/ice-cream/uyu: RM30
- Portable wifi: RM5 per person
- Shopping: up to you! I spent around RM200-RM300 kot
1. Flight ticket
Beli awal! Sentiasa alert dengan promo Air Asia. We booked around 7 months prior to the trip. Baggage masa nak pergi target 10kg seorang, masa nak balik kalau nak shopping banyak maybe la 15kg seorang. DEPENDS. Manfaatkan hand carry kalau nak jimat baggage allowance.
2. Rental car
We booked through AJ Rent-a-Car. I would recommend AJ because you can pay cash if you rent a car in Jeju. We booked a few days before the trip. Agak lambat sebenarnya, so dapat sewa Hyundai Avante which is quite big lah. We prefer smaller cars like Kia Morning sebenarnya HAHAHA but Alhamdulillah everything went well. Kalau nak drive dekat Jeju kena ada pengalaman memandu at least setahun dan pergi buat international driver license dekat JPJ dengan bayaran RM150. My friends 'Afifah and Aqilah je yang buat lesen internasional tu, manakala Murshidah and I jadi co-pilot(?). Kalau seorang je driver takut penat, so mereka berdua bergilir-gilir drive. Oh ya, GPS dalam hangul, tapi suara navigation dalam English. Simpan semua phone numbers tempat yang ingin dituju. You only have to key in the phone number, nanti GPS tu keluar location tempat yang ingin dituju itu. Aqilah and I know how to read hangul, so boleh double-check location yang tertera dalam GPS. Hohoho.
3. Gasoline
Hari kedua dekat Jeju tu mintak ahjussi stesen minyak isi full. Murshidah said to him, "Gasoline, full~~~~" dan dia faham hoho. Lepastu end up seorang kena bayar around RM57. Mahal kan minyak dia???? Dah lah tangki kereta besar. Kereta Hyudai Avante tu pun pakai banyak minyak. Tapi cukuplah sekali tu je isi minyak. Cukup untuk jalan-jalan secara produktif selama 4 hari.
4. Hotels
We stayed at two different hotels. 2 malam dekat Seongsan, 1 malam dekat Jeju City. I highly wanna recommend Jeju Won Resort dekat Seongsan tu! We booked through Agoda around RM100++ per night. Kenapa tak stay dekat guesthouse? Kan lagi murah? Here's the trick. Weolls book hotel yang ada dua katil bujang tapi duduk empat orang dalam tu. So jimat! Seorang cuma bayar RM82 je untuk 3 malam. Lagipun pagi selepas Subuh dah keluar berjalan, malam lepas isyak baru balik, tak guna sangat pun hotel selain tidur. Tak nak spend banyak sangat untuk tempat bermalam
5. Entrance/parking fees
Ada certain tempat free, ada certain tempat kena bayar. Ada mahal, ada murah. Depends nak pergi mana. We went to many places, so... yeah.
6. Lunch at local restaurant
Second day je lunch dekat local restaurant. Masa tu masih dekat Seongsan, so we had lunch at Uribong Sikdang. A popular Muslim-friendly restaurant sebab dia tak hidang pork. Seafood semata-mata. Dekat je dengan Seongsan Ilchulbong. Hari-hari lain tak sempat lunch eventhough ada dalam plan asal sebab nak jimat masa. We survived with roti gardenia + tuna + banana uyu + maggi. 4 hari makan tuna can you imagine? Tapi tak adalah lapar sangat sebab banyak berjalan.
Roti gardenia adalah penyelamat di sana! Sungguh enak dimakan bersama tuna!
7. Convenience store food/ice-cream/uyu/etc.
Banyak beli uyu dengan ice-cream je. Sumpah nikmat makan ice-cream sebab tengah Summer. Dekat Malaysia makan ice-cream rasa biasa je sebab hari-hari Summer HAHAHA.
8. Portable wifi
Book portable wifi from Wiyo, boleh ambil dekat kaunter di KLIA2 sebelum bertolak ke Korea. Wifi tu akan berfungsi di Korea. RM10 sahaja sehari (promo). Malangnya Wiyo kami gagal berfungsi pada hari ketiga dan keempat, so seorang bayar RM5 sahajalah sebab 2 hari je guna Wiyo tu. Thank God, Korea has free Wifi like every where especially in tourist spot, so we depended on free wifi a lot.
9. Shopping
Your total budget depends on how much you shop. If you are a K-beauty fan, mungkin kena belanja lebih. We also entered Artbox, a shop at Jeju City which sells many cute items so it was difficult not to splurge money there. HAHA.
Itinerary
Susah dan pening kepala nak plan itinerary. 4 hari ofkoslah tak cukup nak pergi semua tempat.
Actually we didn't strictly follow our "well-planned itinerary" pun. Since we rented a car, our itinerary can be very flexible. Ada tempat yang tak plan pun nak pergi, contohnya Yellow Cafe, Maeil Olle Market & Hyeopjae Beach 😂 Dan ada tempat yang tak jadi pergi contohnya Dongmun Market dan Spirited Garden atas alasan "we've had enough of that."
Our itinerary ended up to be like this:
🌸DAY 1
Manjanggul Lava Tube, Sightseeing around Seongsan.
🌸DAY 2
Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, Ilchul Land, Lunch at Uribong Sikdang, Jeju Folk Village, Yellow Cafe, Sightseeing around Seogwipo, Maeil Olle Market.
🌸DAY 3
Jeongbang waterfall, Jusangjeolli cliff, Yeongmori coast (tak dapat masuk sebab tengah air pasang 😭), Camellia Hill, Innisfree Jeju House, Osulloc Tea Museum, Hyeopjae Beach, Jungang Shopping Mall, Sightseeing+shopping around Jeju City.
🌸DAY 4
Sightseeing around Jeju City, Convenience store lepak-ing, Jeju International Airport shopping then flight to MY
-------------------------------------------------------------
OK now let me share what happened during DAY 1.
Flight from Malaysia pukul 7 pagi, then sampai Jeju around 2pm. Settle ambil luggage apa semua, we went to AJ Rent-a-car counter in the airport. Kaunter paling hujung. Then, kena naik AJ punya shuttle bus untuk ke tempat ambil kereta sewa. The shuttle bus is free. Then pergi belajar cara guna GPS kereta dengan oppa AJ Rent-a-car. I swear the process of renting a car is easy. That's why I would like to recommend AJ Rent-a-car because:
1. You can pay with cash.
2. Oppa AJ semua kacak+kiut so boleh cuci mata ahaks.
Korean guys are cute when they try hard to speak English like AAAAAAAAAA WAEEE SO KIUTTTTTTT. I had to scream internally to appear calm and cool HAHAHA. Oppa tu tepuk tangan when my friend berjaya repeat apa yang diajar and ada oppa lagi seorang tolong angkatkan beg aku yang berat tu masuk bonet. They are so friendly and nice what more could I ask for???????????
Hidup Malaysia! Malaysia Boleh!
Iolls jeling je mesin gedegang dalam premis AJ Rent-a-car ni. Air kopi Maxim tu macam sedap jew tapi nafsu harus ditahan.
Anda tidak tahu menggunakan GPS Korea? Usah khuatir! Oppa will come to the rescue!
Oppa di sana sini.
Jalan keluar daripada premis AJ Rent-a-car.
Jalan dekat Jeju City agak sibuk and honestly I was worried sebab my friend kena drive on the right hand side of the road kan. Lorong memotong pun sebelah kiri, and kalau dekat round about pulak kena drive ke bahagian kanan (counter-clockwise). Traffic light pun pelik sedikit like..... ada 4 lampu: 2 lampu hijau, satu kuning, satu merah. Tak boleh belok selagi lampu hijau ada anak panah tu tak menyala (lampu anak panah tak ada warna merah I KNOW THIS IS CONFUSING IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN SOBS). Banyak kali berlaku drama cemas semasa memandu but ALHAMDULILLAH ok. Lama-lama terbiasa jugak dengan jalan dekat sana.
Jeju City!
Jalan menuju ke Manjanggul Cave. Sangat cantik! Kalau tengah musim bunga mesti lagi cantik kan. Sobs. Tapi masa summer pun nice apa.
Destinasi pertama, MANJANGGUL LAVA TUBE! We reached there around 4.30pm, jumpa toilet, ambil wuduk, then mata melilau-lilau cari tempat solat. Memang kena solat situ jugak sebab jamak ta'khir. Initially my friends ajak solat belakang air pancut but I refused sebab ramai Chinese tourists nak ambil gambar dekat situ. Lepas bayar entrance fee dekat kaunter tiket suddenly terserempak dengan Lactation Room. Itu bilik untuk ibu menyusukan anak. Tiba-tiba mentol lampu atas kepalaku menyala. JOM SOLAT DALAM TUUUUUUUUUUU! Cepat-cepat masuk dalam tu, siap bukak kasut, then cari arah kiblat dan kami berjaya solat walaupun palpitation sebab takut kantoi. Dah lah ahjussi jual tiket ada dekat bilik sebelah je. Huhu.
Sejurus selepas curi-curi solat.
We had to pay entrance fee of 1,000won (around RM3.60) only instead of 2,000won because we got the youth price. 13 to 24 years old are considered youth.
Into the darkness.
Jemput baca ya anak-anak.
The cave was nice sebab sejuk. It's summer but as soon as you step your feet inside the cave, you can feel the sudden drop of temperature straight away! The lowest temperature was recorded at 13 degree celcius. Best sebab macam air-cond HAHA. I was amazed by how the cave was formed. SubhanAllah. Nampak macam man-made tapi bukan. Nampak sempurna je corak dekat dinding cave tu. Since my camera quality was bad because of bad lighting, I couldn't snap proper pictures. Proper pictures - credit to my travel buddies.
Only 1km of the 13,422m Manjanggul Cave is open to tourists. Many tourists lined up to take pictures with the tall stone at the end of the 1km tunnel since we couldn't go any further. A Korean couple offered to take a group photo of us so we didn't have to use the tripod! Tanah tak rata nanti tripod tumbang meh~ We exchange la, mula-mula ambilkan gambar mereka, then mereka ambilkan gambar weolls. Hidup ini perlu tolong-menolong ya anak-anak. Bila nak keluar cave tu pun that girl siap patah balik sebab offer nak ambilkan gambar weolls, maybe she saw us struggling with our monopod. She looked smart because she can converse in English well! Hati ini terdetik untuk bertanya "are you from Seoul University? because you look smart!" cia cia cia~~~
By the time we got out from the cave, gerai-gerai dekat Manjanggul Cave tu dah tutup dah pun. Mesin gedegang pun tak berfungsi! Dengan elektrik sekali dimatikan sebab dah habis operating hours.
Sanggup berhentikan kereta untuk ambil gambar. Nasib baik tiada kereta di belakang.
Singgah 7-Eleven sebelum menuju ke hotel.
Then check in Jeju Won Resort dalam pukul 7 malam gituh. Oppa jaga kaunter tu pun comel je tau. Iolls and Murshidah masuk je dia terus tanya "is this you?" sambil memaparkan booking details aku pada laptopnya. Aku angguk, dia senyum sambil menyerahkan kunci bilik. "Your room is at level 2." Dia senyum jeeee pastu weolls pun senyum balik lepastu macam...... eh? tu je? Senangnya nak check in? Tak nak tengok passport iolls? HAHAHA.
I really like the hotel la. In another word... Perfecto!
Itulah Seongsan Ilchulbong ittew.
Lebih kurang 5.30AM. Sunrise dekat sini awal.
Malamnya pulak jalan-jalan around Seongsan. Ingatkan nak cari restoran untuk dinner. Tapi yang Muslim-friendly semua tutup. Rata-rata kedai tulis "DWAEJI" (khinzir).... lol. In the end pergi convenience store je, beli banana uyu atau ice-cream. Malam tu balik hotel and buat pesta maggi! Eh best pulak makan Maggi cup dekat negara orang! Maggi asam laksa iolls dicampur bersama tuna = UMPHHH!!! SEDAP!!! (Yes, weolls bawak tuna ke sana bertin-tin hokay. Sila tiru aksi ini.)
Makan Maggi sambil menonton Produce 48 tapi tak faham dek ketiadaan subtitle.
Self prescribed - sehari kena minum sekali untuk hidup yang lebih ceria.
Beli kopi Maxim sebab nak bawak balik Malaysia. Saya suka kopi ini sejak menang give away KBS haritu.
Sekian sahaja ulasan untuk DAY 1 JEJU JE LA TRIP. Tunggu next entry untuk DAY 2 pulak hokay! Papai!
